This week, there were significant developments at the Copyright Office. Last Thursday, the head of the Library of Congress (which oversees the Copyright Office) was let go. Late Friday, the Copyright Office released a “pre-publication version” of the third stage of their AI report, discussing whether training an AI model is fair use. On Saturday, the head of the Copyright Office was let go. Exciting times! A bill banning state regulation of AI for 10 years was slipped into a spending bill. Finally, if you opted out of letting Meta’s AI model train off your data, you may need to opt out again.
